For over 67 Years, Citizens and Businesses have been highlighted for their achievements in a number of categories such as; Business of the Year, Small Business of the Year, Community Excellence, Tourism, Citizen of the Year, Young Professional, and Business Person of the Year.

 How the Chamber Gala Nominations Work

The Brockville and District Chamber of Commerce Gala celebrates outstanding individuals, organizations, and businesses in our community — and you play an important role!

Here’s how the nomination and selection process works:

1. Open to Everyone:
   Anyone in the community can submit a nomination — you do not need to be a Chamber member to nominate or to be nominated.
2. Eight Award Categories:
   Nominations are accepted for all eight Chamber awards, each recognizing a different aspect of business and community excellence.
3. Board Review & Scoring:
   Every Chamber Board Member receives the nomination packages and individually reviews each one.
4. • Each nomination form includes a scoring section with clear criteria for each award category.
   • Board Members score each nomination independently using an Excel scoring sheet.
   • If a Board Member was nominated, they can not score the selection.
4. Confidential Submissions:
   Once scoring is complete, each Board Member submits their scoring sheet only to the Executive Director of the Chamber.
5. Final Tally & Selection:
   The Executive Director compiles all scoring sheets.
6. • All scores are tallied together to determine the finalists and award recipients.
   • The process ensures fairness, consistency, and confidentiality throughout.

 The result? A transparent, community-driven celebration of excellence in business and leadership across our region.

NOMINATIONS FOR THE 2027 AWARDS OF EXCELLENCE GALA OPEN JANUARY 1ST 2027

Do you know of a well deserving business, organization or citizen? Do they represent or relate to one or more of the award categories available for submission?

The Brockville and District Chamber of Commerce is looking for well deserving businesses that represent Brockville and District's  ideals of hard work and dedication.

What is the nomination process?

1. A nomination form must be completed and submitted to the Brockville and District Chamber of Commerce in order to be considered. Letters of support will only be used for information purposes and will not be counted as a nomination. 
2. Nominations can be submitted online or, by completing the form below and submitting in person to;

3. A Chamber representative will contact the nominee to ask if they wish to let their name stand.
4. The Brockville and District Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors will convene a special meeting to evaluate all standing nominations against category criteria to determine the finalists.
5. Finalists will be notified and invited to the Gala event being held on September 16th, 2027 at the Brockville Country Club in the Granite Room.

Who is eligible? Nominees may be any business, organization or individual who has demonstrated a significant economic and/or social contribution to our community and district. All nominations will be kept confidential.  Note: Nominees do not have to be a member of the Brockville and District Chamber of Commerce in order to qualify.

What is the deadline? All nominations must be received by 5pm on June 4th, 2027. No late entries will be accepted.

The Ben TeKamp Memorial Award has been established to be presented to an outstanding business that is new or has reinvented itself to meet the changing needs of Leeds and Grenville.

Description

Ben TeKamp championed and advocated for local community economic development from both a public and private perspective. Originally emigrating from Holland and growing up in a rural environment, Ben was raised on the ethics of hard work, respect and integrity. He wore many hats over the years. Be it on the farm or in the boardroom, he was a citizen of Brockville with a lengthy resume to certainly be proud of. Although best known as Mayor Ben, his political career was just one of his many contributions to the Brockville community.

He is also remembered as an accomplished businessman and a believer, supporter and motivator of new entrepreneurs and people interested in starting their own business. Working with local community economic development agencies, Ben spent years helping new businesses turn into successful livelihoods.

Selection Criteria

The Award is open to anyone living in Leeds and Grenville who exemplifies the criteria established:

• Applicants or nominees must be in the initial stages of business development, innovation or re-invigoration.
• Business history and start up effort should display some of the traits which Ben TeKamp was most noted for: perseverance, collaboration, leadership.
• Preference will be given to new businesses that have displayed strong creativity and innovation.
• Core business concept should have clear promise of growth, sustainable practices and/or exceptional vision that will contribute to business success.
• Must display how the business can make a significant contribution to the larger community of Leeds and Grenville.
• Must have demonstrated a significant effort to develop a business plan.
